Our Simple Procedure
We have a simple six step process at Divorce is Simple we pride ourselves on our thoughtful and solid procedure. Throughout the process of Mediation you will be going through multiple steps, take a look at what it's all about below!
1. Free 15 Minute Consultation

Schedule a 20 minute free call and tell us what is going on in your world. You can call on your own or with your partner, whichever feels most comfortable. We will take the time to discuss our services and the different packages we have to offer. We will take the time to make sure that Divorce is Simple right for you.
2. Introductory Session

Join us for a 90 minute virtual session where we discuss family law in Ontario, your rights and obligations. This session will give you a clear insight as to where you stand. If you decide to proceed with our services we will sign an agreement in order to start the process. The introductory session of $250 per couple is refundable with signup to one of our three packages.
3. Financial Disclosure

Depending on what package you chose you will spend time with our CDFA. They will guide you through division of assets, pensions and finding a way that works for both of you as to how you will divide your assets and also manage any debts that you may be carrying. You will spend a session or two developing a well thought out plan that takes into consideration your taxes and come up with a dedicated plan that makes good financial sense.
4. Time to Mediate

During your mediation sessions you will work on a comprehensive parenting plan. This is an emotional time and we want the children to go through this process with as little stress and emotional upheaval as possible. In our further mediation sessions we will discuss division of assets, spousal support, pensions and conflict resolution. By the end of the mediation sessions there should be no questions unanswered.
5. Independent Legal Advice (ILA)

We cannot overstate the importance of independent legal advice for both parties. The idea behind ILA is to protect an individual from signing any document before understanding the risks of the transaction. We will connect you to your own Family Lawyer who will work on your behalf to make sure the document drafted reflects your needs. Getting ILA makes sure your separation agreement is legally binding and enforceable and will stand the test of time.
6. Let’s sign!

Now that you have completed ILA and are satisfied that your agreement, it is time to sign. We will coordinate with both of you to sign the agreement either together or separately whatever is most comfortable. Once it is signed you will be given a formal copy of the Separation agreement. When you are ready we would apply for your Uncontested divorce. At Divorce is Simple we will prepare all the necessary paperwork and file on your behalf. This cannot be filed with the courts until one year after your date of separation.
