Where it Started
I remember lying awake at 3 a.m., chest tight, watching the legal bills climb and the savings disappear. Three years into a divorce I never planned for, I was doing everything everyone told me to do, and it was still costing me everything. I felt completely alone in something no one prepares you for. I was trying to protect my children from the tension while quietly falling apart myself. The professionals I hired meant well, but the system they worked in wasn't designed with my well-being or my finances in mind. Then I made the decision that changed everything. I fired my lawyer, represented myself, and won. That decision didn't come from confidence. It came from necessity. I had spent three years trusting a process that was draining me, and I finally understood I had to take control of my own outcome. So I did. I represented myself in court, obtained my divorce order, and came out the other side with my finances intact and my dignity untouched. Then I went back to school. I earned my accreditation as a family law mediator through York University, graduating in 2022, and opened Divorce Is Simple in 2023. It was the practice I had searched for during my own separation and couldn't find anywhere in Ontario.
What I Bring to This Work
Before mediation, I spent 20 years as a licensed real estate broker, including five years as a development and education trainer, travelling across Ontario and the Maritimes to train others in the industry. I understand property, financial disclosure and asset division in a way most mediators simply don't. Before Canada, I spent 15 years as a flight attendant with British Airways. Travelling the world taught me how to stay calm, clear-headed and human under pressure. Being the steady presence in the room when everything feels uncertain is a skill I use every day in this practice. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I understand not only the legal and financial sides of separation, but the emotional ones too. I know what it costs to hold everything together when everything feels like it's falling apart. When you work with me, you're not getting someone who studied your situation from the outside. You're getting someone who came out the other side.

Sara Hopper
Family Lawyer
Sara is a family lawyer practicing throughout the GTA having focussed entirely on family law since her call to the bar in 2015. Through a unique blend of compassion, experience and creativity, she assists her clients navigating through the difficult process of separation and divorce. Sara assists clients throughout the dispute resolution process, whether that be in the courtroom or in a collaborative setting. Prior to entering law school, Sara was an avid soccer player and the Captain of the Wilfrid Laurier Varsity Women’s Soccer Team. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and her two huskies, Bandit and Ace.
Aron David
Family Lawyer
Aron has been practicing family law exclusively since his call to the bar in 2016. Aron attended York University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours. Aron then enrolled at Osgoode Hall Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 2015. Aron has extensive experience representing clients at the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice; however, wherever possible, Aron attempts to focus on de-escalating conflict and resolving issues through alternative dispute resolution.
